Ningbo Eastern Town Ecological Corridor
I selected this piece because of the concept of a "sponge city" one that strengthens ecological structure and drainage. I found it inspiring to see, as many landscape architects talk of issues and we see great concern for our environment but in my opinion there is not enough speed in implementing innovative ideas or technologies that directly respond to these issues. However a sponge city does, and this is being evidently implemented specifically in East Asia. Alongside this, the colours and types of planting create a calming atmosphere- an oasis in such a densely packed city. The fact that it is being applied in a city is also inspiring as it tackles the issues head on, with pollution and provides an applicable framework to other urban areas with similar issues. Furthermore, the use of boardwalks and pavilions means that it adds value to society in regards to wellbeing and experience. This project is so multi functional that it makes me feel excited for the future of Landscape Architecture!
