Module reflection AD5605

 Overall this module has supported me in discovering my own personal likes dislikes, weaknesses and strengths.

*being a do-er rather than a thinker
*working on the spot/ under pressure
* responding to briefs in a creative manner
* research

* visualizing spaces
*perspective drawings
* designing to present a message, I sometimes over clutter the page
* over thinking tasks to the point where I misinterpret it

* drawing abstractly
* drawing mindlessly while doing another irrelevant task
* exploring new techniques/ artists/ digital softwares and their capabilities
* group work

* working around other designers as i compare work- to resolve this i need to work on my self confidence as a designer and learn to take inspiration from others rather than compare
* having to explain designs/ drawings- personally i like to interpret drawings and compare those interpretations rather than be confident in knowing what i see

* drawing!!!!
* my confidence as a designer in putting my ideas forward
* discovering who i am as a designer (still on a journey), how i work best (at night)

AutoCAD progression

I first thought of AutoCAD as intimidating but I now see it as a power tool to unlock the potential of a site. During one of my sustainable modules I have learned masses of quick tips and 'cheats' through using the cross section method to calculate a cut and fill for a site that we were asked to re design. I found it did not limit me regardless of any organic shapes I used as I originally thought AutoCAD would.

James Van Sweeden

 After studying the architect in class I went home and looked at more of his works. His house by the rocks is my favourite- as is expected. I drew over it and decided to try using crayons to colour it in, this is a medium I rarely ever use but I think it was quite effective in the rocks and water, a lot of depth was created.

Next time I would not mix the medium with fine liners as I think it looks quite messy though I do believe I would struggle to create structured buildings without fine liners.

Rocky river

 I felt highly inspired when seeing a river with rocks poking through the waters surface. I created this design and began to replicate it in different formats and quite admired the pattern created.

My favourite aspect of this is that you don't know where it starts or ends nor do you know where the centre is. I purposefully used 3 different types of pens to explore the effect of fineness in my drawings. I believe this was successful as I was able to deliberate choose more prominent lines to give more of  a rippled/layered effect.

Wild life corridors ink sketch

 I was reading illustrative books that inspired this collage of drawings. Drawing from different angles with such detail gave me room to explore visual techniques that suit the context of the drawing.

Tea in space anyone?

 I tried the new trend of splashing remnants of tea over your sketchbook page, allowing it to dry then drawing whatever you want over the stain. I decided to just draw what I saw, initially I found this difficult as I saw quite abstract personnel and shapes but after putting my pen on the paper it became easier as I went along.

 Water colour in space - This is one of my first water colours since GCSEs and I am quite proud of it. I think there is a lot of depth and texture. I wanted to overlay it with a figure outline of myself but did not want to ruin such a pretty water colour!

Work in progress 2 (hedges)

I was able to finally draw out my ideas. I modelled my idea on SketchUp and used the layout technique to trace over this once before adding colour, texture and including a different angle.
Topiary inspired me to design a space like this, I always see topiary as dark and claustrophobic except it can be beautiful most of the time but I wanted to express my take on it through putting people in those physical experiences via creating a "hedged city".

Linked In

Digital presence

As part of being a designer I believe it is important to grow confident in sharing opinions within the industry. This may be difficult to do in person hence I reflect my landscape architecture opinions and conscious thoughts onto LinkedIn where people may agree or disagree. This is crucial to help me grow as a designer and gain wider perspective.

GA Hardworks

On reflection I struggled with this part of the assignment as I could not visualise how the materials would look together across the site. D...
