BRIEF:
To design a communal courtyard for a high rise podium residence in Brindley Canal area, Birmingham. Consider residential apartments overlooking the central courtyard and communal reception area with access to different parts of the buildings surrounding the courtyard. Consider privacy for residents on the ground floor level with private gardens.
Function: Sit, relax, play
Problem: I wanted a mosaic tile texture as a feature paving within a seating area I had created on Lumion.
Solution: I managed to import a high quality texture off google, edit the colour in Photoshop then import it into Lumion.
From my placement at FIRA an additional skill I have picked up on is geometric spatial analysis, this is an analysis that I had never considered before.
What it creates is a direct relationship with the design and layout. Rather than laying down shapes randomly, using corners, edges and angles of site boundaries and lining up the design with them creates a more aesthetic and clean design overall.
To do this I created a separate layer in AutoCAD and drew out red lines to help line up where aspects were to be, I did some of these according to measurements , this especially helps where a majority of the shapes are geometric.
I was inspired during my work placement at FIRA to create a conceptual drawing of some streetscape furniture in a hypothetical place. While creating this I began to add bold colours and fonts. I then added filters to some of the images and distorted them before layering them into a collage.
This is not my usual style but I wanted to try something new that would express being bold.
