Piet Oudolf

The Battery

When I saw this image it instantly connected with fantasy's from my childhood. I recognized some of the forms of the planting in my own work and I believe subconsciously I am striving to draw planters similar to Piet's. I have seen his work once before during another lecture and I was encaptivated. His work throws you into another world, full of fairies and moors but from a matured perspective opportunities are evident for pollinators, wildlife and psychological benefits.

This specific planter reminds me of a thatched cottage garden and yet it fits so well in an urban context- specifically speaking in New York. Comparing the pictures from what looks to be Autumn to Winter the seasons only highlight the colour palette and textures. This is the beauty of his design work, it is flexible while maintaining its aesthetic. It's clever and well-thought out.

PEOPLE

"A world with no humans is no place for me"- Shereen

I have begun to explore different ways to represent people in visualizations that are simple and effective in various styles whilst also being representative of a diversity of demographics.

Drawing 1 year later

This is a drawing of a piece of street furniture I drew in first year for a potential construction detail. A year on the improvement in the accuracy and confidence in the penmanship is evident and successful.

First year

Second year

Lily Pond, Rockefeller Park, Manhattan

Part of being a young designer is to look back at those who inspire us, learn from them and do it better. I believe this is how the discipline will evolve. Thus I have used this piece of Landscape Architecture as a spring board for my own ideas which is quite contemporary and creative.

Initial inspiration:

My version:

Additionally I wanted to suggest innovative street furniture derived from this concept of "re-creating"
Note: the writing on the left side of the bench says 'post box' as I wanted to create a piece that is multi-functional

A whole new perspective...

This drawing is a whole new level for me.

I have explored drawing literally within a frame, rather than the frame of a paper size.

I have begun to explore various mediums; pencil/ felt tip/ fine liner which has directly fed into the character of the drawing

My initial aim was to grow my confidence and discover my style, as I do not yet have a "brand" as a designer however I am also considering the fact that my capability of having various styles could also be a strength.

However these "various styles" need to be consistent and to a high standard which is my focus.

AXONOMETRIC PRACTISE

In first year we were tasked to draw an axonometric for a portfolio- it is safe to say I was clueless and intimidated. I had never even heard of the term axonometric but with support I was able to create one.

Now in second year we will have to create a technical axonometric which worries me a little so I am beginning to free hand draw a few.

The irony of this situation is when tasked to draw in lectures I draw axonometric without realising.

PRACTISE 1

Sketchup overline

Tracing over a 3D Sketchup model is a quick and an easy visualization that can be put into practise. It is especially useful because I am quite confident in making Sketchup models that are simple, for instance the Sketchup version of this took me 45minutes which I believe will become faster after practise.

MICROCLIMATE- CONCEPTUAL

We were tasked with a word to do with miroclimates from which we had to create a design behind it including user experience, context, location and draw out a delivery before presenting the design.

I worked with two groups; Precipitation and Temperature

The key learning experience I gathered from this was to put my designers ego into a back seat and become open minded to others ideas. Although I personally disagreed with some of the ideas and did not like them, the task involved collaboration so I became a supportive team member and used my own ideas where I had responsibility to do so.

GA Hardworks

On reflection I struggled with this part of the assignment as I could not visualise how the materials would look together across the site. D...
